We decided to spend the Fourth of July in Pennsylvania and headed for Harrisburg. We were looking forward to fireworks over the river, but the weather didn’t cooperate. We ended up having a quiet day at the campground.
From Harrisburg, we headed to Lancaster. Passing through Hershey, we couldn’t help but notice the cool street lights shaped like Hershey Kisses.

In Lancaster we visited the Sight and Sound Theater to see their production of Samson. We had discovered Sight and Sound in Branson, MO last year. They do productions based on biblical stories, and they rival anything you’ll see on Broadway. Samson did not disappoint. Excellent and highly recommended.

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum
From there we made a stop in Washington, PA where we visited the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. We didn’t know what to expect, but it was highly rated on Trip Advisor. We had fun and had a private tour as we learned the history of the old Trolley cars.
Here are some of the highlights.

LeMoyne House
We also visited the LeMoyne House. Dr. Francis Lemoyne opened his home to runaway slaves, making it a stop along the Underground Railroad. Lots of interesting Civil War artifacts inside.

Whiskey Rebellion
Washington, Pennsylvania was the sight of the famous Whiskey Rebellion, when citizens organized protests against the federal government’s first tax on an American product. We happened to be in town during the annual Whiskey Rebellion Festival commemorating the event.
