First stop in Massachusetts was Foxboro, home of the New England Patriots. We saw the stadium as we rolled into town and Jeff had to stop for some pics.

John F. Kennedy Presidential Library
We headed into Boston for a visit to the JFK Library. Located next to the campus of the University of Massachusetts, the JFK Library sits along the banks of Dorchester Bay overlooking Boston and the Atlantic ocean.

As a candidate, Kennedy visited the University of Michigan where he proposed the Peace Corps. There is a plaque at the site commemorating his visit.

Jeff’s Birthplace
Following our trip to the JFK Library we ventured over to Revere and Winthrop, Boston suburbs where Jeff lived for a few years as a child.

Plymouth Rock
We visited Plymouth, MA – home of Plymouth Rock where the Pilgrims first landed. Quite a surprise to see how small the “rock” is.

Plymouth was beautiful. The water and fall colors were very picturesque. There was a ship moored at the dock, the Mayflower II – a replica of the original Mayflower.

We visited the monument marking the burial place of many of the Pilgrims who died that first winter in Plymouth.

We also saw the very first church built in Plymouth.

Cape Cod
From Plymouth we headed to Cape Cod. We set up camp in Eastham and ventured out to the furthest point in Cape Cod – Provincetown. Before we reached the town though, we came across a street fair called Oysterfest. It was an event to raise money for charities. It was a fun time, even though we’re not Oyster fans.

Provincetown & Chatham & Beaches
It was cold in Provincetown! Fun little town with a lot of eclectic stores. We had fun roaming around – even though it started to snow.

The next day we visited Chatham. Another cute town, but expensive! One store had a cute scarf Cathy liked that was only $1,300.

We had to check out the beaches on Cape Cod, and found Coast Guard Beach – named for the old Coast Guard Station there. Yes, it was chilly.

Martha’s Vineyard
We took the ferry across to Martha’s Vineyard for the day. It was really windy on the coast, but once away from the water it wasn’t too bad. We really enjoyed exploring.

One of the unique communities on the island is a neighborhood of Gingerbread homes. These were kit homes built in the 1860’s and they’ve maintained their charm.

Here are a couple of videos as well:
This is definitely a place we want to return to in the summer weather. Now we’re off to New York to meet some friends who are joining us for a week of travel!
