Sitting in the coach on a dreary, rainy day in Port St Lucie, Florida, it’s a good day to catch up on some housekeeping – mainly getting our website up to date.

2018 was an interesting travel year for us. We moved around the first part of the year, sat for several months over the summer, then took off in the fall again.

We traveled 7,363 miles last year – the fewest in the last four years – visiting 38 different cities and towns.

Lion Country Safari

Following our last update, we traveled south in Florida to the West Palm Beach area where we stayed in Loxahatchee at the Lion Country Safari KOA. It was a really nice KOA campground with spacious sites. One of the unique and interesting features is that the campground backs up to the pen at Lion Country Safari that houses the lions. Lions are nocturnal creatures, and we could hear them roaring during the night. Quite an experience.

Lion Country Safari exceeded our expectations. There were fewer lions than we had hoped, and that was disappointing, but the amount of other animals more than made up for it.

When you begin the drive through the park, the rangers provide you with a CD or cassette (or you can download the app) to narrate the trip.

As usual, there are more photos in our photo gallery.

Mar-a-Lago Club (President Trump’s South Florida Home)

We did have a little fun “accidentally” turning into the back driveway at Mar-a-Lago.  In our defense, the gate was open and unattended.

Christmas in the Keys

The drive into the Keys is beautiful, following the Overseas Highway (U.S. 1). The highway runs roughly 100-miles from Key Largo south to Key West.

Several years ago we stayed in Key West and Key Largo. This year, we decided to spend Christmas in the Keys, and selected the Venture Out Resort, just a short drive from Key West. It was a nice place to call home for a couple weeks. The people were very friendly. Overall, it was an above average park, with many park models and RV spaces squeezed in between. A lot of the spaces were waterfront, and that was the best part for us – the space we booked.

This was our view from our coach every day. Beautiful.

The owner of the lot even decorated for Christmas – Florida Keys style!

We spent a couple days sightseeing and enjoying the weather – including having Pina Colada’s at a nice water front bar we found. Then, Zack flew in to join us for Christmas. We really had a nice time sightseeing, and we rented jet skis one day. Such fun!

Having a little too much fun!

We left the Keys and headed to Miami so Zack could catch his flight home. Love the greeter at Miami Everglades RV Resort.

Port St Lucie, Florida

We have a new favorite RV resort. It’s the MotorCoach Resort in Port St Lucie, Florida. Even though we spent two winters in Florida prior to this one, we somehow missed this gem of a resort. In most ways, it’s not much different from other upscale resorts we’ve stayed in, except for the people. We’ve made so many new friends – everyone is so friendly and nice. We laugh because when we take off to walk around the block it can take us two hours because everyone is outside and wants to say hello.

Mandy Spots a Bunny

The amenities are top notch – large heated pool, gym, activities galore, and free 18 hole golf course! We’re having a blast. What a great way to end the year and start 2019.

New Year’s Eve

We capped off the year with a nice New Year’s Eve party at the resort featuring a live band, great food, and of course wonderful new friends.
