We spent a few days in South Dakota this week. Campgrounds everywhere were packed as more than 1 million people arrived for the 75th Anniversary Sturgis Bike Rally.

This year the event is entirely sponsored by Harley Davidson. Met a lot of really nice folks – many first timers – from all over. The constant rumble of Harleys everywhere was pretty cool.

The event brings out the idiots too. As of Wednesday morning, the number of DUI arrests hit 134. There were 144 misdemeanor drug arrests and 59 felony drug arrests. Nine fatalities so far – although one law enforcement officer told us he thought the statewide tally on Monday was over 20.

The main streets in other local towns were shut down to all vehicle traffic except motorcycles, so it became a bit challenging to get around. Bikers were everywhere, and even as we left the area, there was a constant stream of bikes heading toward Sturgis. #sturgis2015
