October 4, 2016 was our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We celebrated in New York City and had a blast. We parked the motorhome in a campground outside the city, and got a hotel right in the heart of Times Square.
While we’ve been to NYC a couple times before, this year was a bit of a culture shock after spending most of the past two years in serene and quiet campgrounds.
It was fun and loud and bright.
Live with Kelly, Dr. Oz and Wendy Williams
We’ve always wanted to visit some of the shows that record in New York. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get tix to Jimmy Fallon, but we did catch the Wendy Williams Show, Live With Kelly and Dr. Oz. It was fun.
After a nice dinner, we headed to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre to catch the show, “Beautiful.” It’s the story of Carole King.
From the website:
BEAUTIFUL tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than BEAUTIFUL music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.
We absolutely LOVED this show. We’ve seen a lot of shows and this ranks as one of the best. Highly recommend it.
Dinner at Gallaghers Steakhouse
Located just steps from the lights of Broadway and Times Square, Gallaghers Steakhouse has been providing excellent food for over 85 years. A New York City landmark in its own right, Gallaghers’ meat locker features its own window facing 52nd street. Beef is hand selected and then aged for 21+ days in the humidity-controlled meat locker.
The evening was wonderful, and it was topped off when the waiter told us the gentleman at the next table had paid our bill! Wow. What a blessing. We had talked with him for quite a while. His wife had a recent health scare, and Cathy told him about her health challenges and the power of prayer. What a great way to end our time in NYC!
