What can we say about Glacier? It’s still one of our most favorite places in the world. This is our second time here and, once again, it did not disappoint.

We met up with our good friends Jan and Carl for several days of hiking, games and fun. On day one we hiked to Lake McDonald, then drove around the other side of the lake to see the historic Lake McDonald Lodge. Great day and perfect weather!

On day two, we hiked to Avalanche Lake. This is a 4.5 mile round-trip with a 700 foot elevation gain. It’s rated as a “moderate” hike, but it is well worth it. Much of the hike follows the water of Avalanche Creek, and then through dense forest.

The payoff is a gorgeous Avalanche Lake with breathtaking views.

If you’ve never been to Glacier National Park, put it on your bucket list! This is a wowzer.

Whitefish Lake & Big Mountain

We drove Whitefish to explore the town before heading up to the Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort at Big Mountain. Whitefish was a typical resort town with overpriced boutiques and a ton of art galleries. Whitefish Lake was very nice – it is a nice gem for locals with a public beach, boat and kayak rentals and more. Looks like a lot of fun.

Up to Big Mountain, we rode the ski lifts to the top to take in the amazing views, then had some fun on the ride down.

Off to our next stop. Happy Trails!
