The city of Galveston is located on Galveston Island on the Gulf Coast of Texas. We spent a couple of days there and had a great time. The beaches were nice, although the water here isn’t as blue as further down south. That’s because of the silt carried into the Gulf by the Mississippi River.

There are plenty of tourist attractions on the island, including Pleasure Pier – a board walk with amusement rides, and Moody Gardens, where giant glass pyramids house sharks, monkeys and other animals. We avoided those and headed instead to the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum.

It was quite interesting learning about underwater drilling and the huge drilling rigs.
