South Florida in the winter is very nice. We started the year outside Miami and then bounced around a bit between Naples, Fort Myers and Margate (outside Fort Lauderdale).
Naples Motorcoach Resort & Boat Club
Our stay in Naples was great! We had perfect weather, made new friends and enjoyed relaxing in the sun. The Naples Motorcoach Resort provided a very relaxing environment. This is a class-A only resort – no travel trailers or fifth wheels. It’s also an ownership property so many of the owner sites have been developed with tiki huts, pavers, landscaping – and some even have coach houses.
The best beach in Naples is Vanderbilt Beach. We took a day to hang out there. Had an excellent (and expensive) lunch at Gumbo Limbo right on the beach.
Our friends Joel & Wendy highly recommended Pastrami Dan’s, and boy were they right. This family-owned restaurant has been a staple of the Naples community since the 1970s. The menu is limited because what they serve, they serve to perfection.
You can’t go wrong with a Pastrami or Roast Beef sandwich here.
Pelican Lake Motorcoach Resort
Another very nice resort in Naples is the Pelican Lake Motorcoach Resort. We stayed here a few days before heading north to Fort Myers Beach. The lots are very large and private. It’s nearly completely sold out, so anytime you rent here, you are staying on an owner’s lot with amenities.
The lake and clubhouse here are very nice, with lots of activities all season long.
Fort Myers Beach
We had a great time in Fort Myers Beach. It’s close to Cape Coral where cousins John & Nikki live, and very close to the beach too.
Birthday Fun with the Cousins
Cathy and her cousin John both have February birthdays, so we had a family celebration at John’s house.
Where to next?
It’s hard to believe we’ve been in Florida for over three months again. It has been great spending time with family and friends, but we’re looking forward to exploring Texas as we head west. A few more days in Florida, then we hit the open road.
